140 Army is a new Twitter-based Army game. Start an army , recruit your friends, and rule Twitter. It’s a fun online game, check it out at 140army.com it’s a great way to meet new people on Twitter.

What Do You Do?

1. Battle opponents in the Battle arena.
2. Complete Missions.
3. Purchase Property.
4. Purchase weapons in the Armory.
5. Build your army by Recruiting.

You can also earn badges of honor for completing missions, winning battles, building an army, and more.

Building Your Army

One of the first things you need to do when you begin playing 140 army is build your army up asap! The more people you have in your army the less others will be attacking you in the Battle arena.

In the recruit section you have your direct invite link. It looks like this:

You’ll want to leave your link in your profile comments as well as on the profiles of people you would like to join your army. When checking out other peoples comments you’ll see other peoples links, so copy and paste the link in your browser and they will join your army.

You can also use TweetTrains to build your army on autopilot.

Cheats, Tips and Hints

Here are a few cheats, tips and hints to help you play 140 Army with the best of us.

1. Save up and buy 10 properties at a time, you’ll save cash that way.
2. If you get to a high level and people no longer attack you, drop some of your high upkeep weapons and save some cash.
3. Don’t waste to many points on defense and attack, they don’t help you much.
4. You don’t have to throw your money in the vault, at 12% it’s often better to hang on to it. Losing some cash to others is often cheaper than the vault.
5. Try to find as many people as you can to attack for $100,000. It helps you arm up faster. Make a list and keep it in notepad, then enter in your browser http://140army.com/profile?id=nova__caine for example or replace nova__caine for another user and hit enter to pull up their profile and battle. I have a huge list that I use and battle with all day, I just keep copying and pasting from notepad.
6. Keep checking the Hitlist in between battles, hits do pop up from time to time and they can pay big $$$.

High Dollar “Ghost Accounts”

Lolplaying the makers of 140 Army have many “ghost accounts” set up that pay $100,000 ($70k after -$30k transaction fee). Sometimes you can find them on the scoreboard or in the Battle area. Look for accounts that have few wins and high losses, or a mid level account that is poorly armed ( a pistol and knife only). These are some of the signs of a ghost account.

To help you I will be listing my list of “ghost accounts” in the weeks ahead, so check back every few days for new accounts to add to your list. I’ll add new names 2 or 3 times a week.

Time for A New 140 Army

As great as 140 Army is, it can be improved. 140 Army is fun until you get to level 40, after that there is nothing to play for except for scoreboard positioning for Most Wins, Most Vault, Most Income, etc. So for me and everyone else I play with I’m going to create a new and improved version of 140 Army. With more weapons to buy, more property to earn you money, ghosts accounts in the hitlist, more badges of honor, the ability to purchase mercenaries from the Armory, and more.

To make this fun for everyone I’m taking suggestions on gameplay and features. Anyone a wiz with graphics and want to volunteer for creating the pictures and badges, I could use you. My goal is to make a game we can all enjoy for a longtime.

The development costs are going to run well over $1,000 so I can use your help, take a look at a sponsor offer, buy a membership, or purchase a product. And most of all tell your friends, the more the better. I want to spare no expense in creating the best game possible.

I personally use Twitter to tweet about kimmel, spread, my movie beautiful life, and every day things. I just recently set up a fan page to follow others, I wanted to keep aplusk for those I’m closest to and tweet with daily. From feedback I’ve received, people seem to enjoy the fan page. The problem arises when people start to publish other peoples feeds to Twitter. For example the people who think automatically tweeting the Mashable or TechCrunch feeds will somehow make them appear popular or the Twitter bots whose sole purpose is to syndicate the Google News results for a query such as “internet marketing”.

If you are lucky enough to be in Google News all you need to do to get 50+ people tweeting a link is use a popular keyword such as “SEO” or “affiliate marketing” in your title and the tweets come rolling in.  All totally useless.

Because Twitter has no way of filtering duplicate messages the search results (and aggregators like Tweetmeme) are polluted with dozens of identical tweets.

Twitter could fix this in an instant by removing Twitterfeed tweets from the search results or creating a duplicate content filter but they don’t seem to be doing anything about it.

Here is a basic how to use Twitter guide. It’s designed to help you get up to speed as quickly as possible on how to use Twitter.

If you’re currently not using Twitter, you may feel as if you’ve missed the boat. Don’t be put off by its immense popularity with main stream internet users or by the complaining of Twitter haters who missed out on the fun. Twitter is an interesting and practical real-time messaging system for groups and friends. It’s just not completely obvious how to get into the “club.” So, here’s a beginners guide to this new platform. I don’t cover every single feature of Twitter, but this guide will help get you started.

What’s Twitter?

Twitter is an online social bookmarking service that enables you to broadcast short messages to your friends or “followers.” It also lets you specify which Twitter users you want to follow so you can read their messages in one place.

Twitter is designed to work on a mobile phone as well as on a computer. All Twitter messages are limited to 140 characters, so each message can be sent as a single SMS alert. You can’t say much in 140 characters. That’s part of Twitter’s charm.

Twitter is useful for close-knit groups (although there also are some fairly large mobs on Twitter). If you follow your friends, and they follow each other, you can quickly communicate group-related items, such as “I’m going to the club on Second Street, come on along.”

If you enter items into Twitter, they can be private, so only friends you’ve authorized can see them. Items can also be made public, which means anyone who knows your Twitter ID can read and subscribe to them.

Twitter is free.

Continue reading to learn how to get started, hook up your mobile, send your first “Tweet,” follow friends, and direct Twitter. I also show you some advanced features and Twitterers worth following.

How to get started

You need to go to Twitter.com and click “Join for free.” For best results, use your real name when signing up; otherwise your friends won’t be able to find you easily. It’s also helpful to upload a picture. If you select the “Protect my updates” box, people won’t be able to read your Twitters unless you authorize them. You’ll have more fun if you leave this box unchecked. Just be sure not to Twitter, “Leaving my front door open and unlocked for the weekend: 227 Maple Street.”

Now that you have setup a Twitter account, tell your friends your username or send them the link to your Twitter page. Each users has his own page, in the form twitter.com/username. (Example: my Twitter page is twitter.com/makecashnowbiz.)

Hook up your mobile phone and IM account

The Twitter network works for you even if you’re not at your computer or browsing the Web. Once you are registered, you can connect your mobile phone and instant messenger account. Go to Settings > Phone and IM. Connecting your phone and IM programs to your Twitter account is a straightforward process. Note that messages you view on a phone or an IM program also are readable on your personal Twitter Web page.

You can make Twitter send you a message every time a user who you are following has posted a Twitter message. This can be fun, but it will drive you crazy if you are following a lot of people. If you don’t want to be barraged by a stream of random messages but still want friends to be able to reach you, select “Direct Message.” Then when other users send a message to you and you alone, you’ll be alerted on your phone or IM account. Otherwise, you won’t get an alert.

Sending Twitter messages, or “Tweets”

You can send a Twitter message, or “Tweet,” from any of your registered devices.

From the Web page, enter a message in the entry window at the top of the page.

From a mobile phone, send an SMS message to 40404. Your phone’s caller ID is attached to your Twitter account, so the system will know it’s from you.

From IM, message TwitterIM if you’re on AOL, or twitter@twitter.com if you’re on Jabber/GTalk.

In all these cases, all your “followers” will see your message on their own Twitter pages and possibly on their mobile devices as well.

Following and joining friends

If you’ve gotten this far, you’re able to send messages into the Twitter system, and your friends can find your account and follow your updates.

On the Web: to add a friend, first be sure you are logged into your account. Then go to his or her Twitter page and press the “Add” link in the “Actions” box. To find a user page, use the search box on your own Twitter page.

Once you click “Add,” you’ll start to see his or her Tweets on your page if his or her account is set for public access. If the account is private, the system will send a “friend” request that must be approved before you start to see updates.

You also can see who your friends are following by hovering your mouse pointer over the pictures in the sidebar on your friends’ pages. Those pictures are of their friends–the users they are following. If you click on one of those pictures, you’ll go to that user’s page, where you can add him or her, too.

You can see all the Tweets from any person’s friends by clicking the “With Friends” tab above his or her message window. Or you can turn that off and see only his or her Tweets by clicking the obliquely named “Previous” tab.

On the phone or IM: send the command follow username to register your phone or IM account to receive public Tweets from a user. You also can invite people based on a phone number: SMS add phone number to 40404, and you’ll start following the user at that number; if the person at that number isn’t a Twitter user, he or she will get an invitation to join.

Managing your friends is much easier by using a full Web browser, but you can do everything on a mobile phone if you wish. See this page of the Twitter Help file for full commands, including details on the all-important Leave (to stop following) and Drop (to remove from your friend list) commands.

Want to be a Twitter nag? Send nudge username and they’ll get a request to send a current Tweet.

Just in case you were wondering what the numbers mean…

A bunch of numbers are on your Twitter page. The most important figures are these:

• The number of “followers” you have. These are the people who are paying attention to (following) your Tweets.
• The number of “friends” you have. This is the number of people you are following.

Public figures and Twitter celebrities will have more followers than friends. People who want to watch more than participate will have more friends than followers. People who just use Twitter to communicate just within their own social group will have roughly the same number of friends and followers.

Person-to-person Twittering

You can send a Twitter message directly to another Twitter user with the Direct command. Enter d username message, and users will get your ping if they have direct messages enabled on their phone or IM account.

If you enter a Tweet with @username at the beginning of it, your message is understood as being intended for that particular person, although others will be able to see it. (However, @ tweets won’t show up on your home page unless you are the intended recipient.) Be sure the person who you want to see your message is following you, or they won’t receive it.

Turning Twitter off

Twitter messages may drive you insane. If you want to turn them off, here’s how: send the command Off, Sleep, or Stop to Twitter. To turn it back on, send On, Wake, or Start.

If you’re sick of Twitter on the PC, just avoid the Web site!

In a Web browser, in your settings page, you also can define a period of time during which Twitter will not bother you by phone or IM. This is useful if you ever want to sleep.

I’ve only had a Twitter account and been active for about 6 months, and here are a few things I have learned.

Keep in mind, many of these tips are only relevant if you use Twitter for website or blog promotion.

1. Your Last 20 Tweets Say Everything!

When someone visits your homepage on Twitter, the first thing they will see is your last 20 tweets (your recent Twitter tweet stream.) So you have 20 chances to sell them on following you.

You want your Twitter tweet stream to exude value and give potential followers a glimpse of what they will get as a follower.  You will be surprised at how many people use your recent Twitter tweet stream to make the follow decision. I always do.

Take a few moments and look over your last 20 tweets.  Try looking at them from the viewpoint of a potential visitor who may be thinking of following you.  See anything you might possibly want to change?

Note: Many people use Twitter clients instead of Twitter.com, so they possibly will see fewer than 20 tweets when they view your Twitter landing page.  Keep that in mind as well.

2.  Make All Your @replies Useful to Everyone

When you reply to someone, make the most of that reply so other followers can benefit.

If someone asks me what software I use to record my screen, I could simply reply with…

@username Camtasia Studio.

There’s a slight problem with this answer. My followers did not see the original question. So even if they know what Camtasia Studio is, they have no idea what I’m talking about unless they click the person’s username to find the question.

A better reply would be…

@username I use Camtasia Studio for my screen recording videos.  You can download a free trial here…

Not only have I helped a curious follower, but I’ve provided information that my other followers may find useful.

Thorough replies like this also add value to your recent Twitter stream as I mentioned above in #1.

Note: Twitter made an update recently so that when you begin a tweet (reply) with @username, the only people who see it is the person you are replying to and anyone who is following both of you.

So if you want everyone to see your reply make sure you do not start the tweet with @username.

3.  Use a Customized Twitter Background

I created a Twitter Background page to give people a quick overview of who I am and what they can expect if they follow me.

Some will argue that it’s best to link to your homepage for the “link juice”, traffic and earnings potential.  So I have followed that advice and receive daily Twitter traffic.

I think it’s very important to gain new followers and build credibility through content.  There will be plenty of time to promote my sites as I build up my credibility.

Most people who buy from your site are going to be visitors who have grown to trust you — not potential Twitter followers who are just trying to figure out if they should follow you or not.

Get the follower now and make the sale later.

4.  Take Full Advantage of Direct Messages

If you get a lot of questions on Twitter, you don’t have to reply to everyone publicly.  Not to mention, a bunch of replies can clog up your Twitter stream.

I have been using direct messages a lot more since I read Marko Saric’s book, Twitter Marketing: How to Go Viral on Twitter, where he encourages you to “pick your tweets wisely” and to be careful about tweeting too much as it may become “white noise” to your followers.

5.  Mix It Up!

No one wants to follow someone who continuously brags about themselves or promotes their site in every single tweet. (Yawn!)

Learn to mix it up and give your Twitter stream some variety.  Poll your followers, engage them, offer some words of wisdom, be funny. The key is finding the right balance.

Never lose sight of the fact that your goal is to provide VALUE to your target audience.  However, a fun or off-topic tweet here doesn’t bother most people, and many welcome the variety.

6.  Twitter is Not the Place for Hard Selling

If you’re going to promote products, affiliate links, etc. you really have to make sure your brand is solid and people respect you.

I don’t do a lot of affiliate link dropping on Twitter.  Quite honestly, I’m not very comfortable with it.

I prefer to let my tweets do the PREselling and hope that my earned credibility will turn my followers into loyal site visitors and customers in the long-run.

Nothing wrong with an occasional site promotion or affiliate link here and there, but you definitely have to choose your promotions wisely and build the credibility first.
