In this Photoshop tutorial I’ll show you how to achieve a neat little text effect with an image overlay while learning the basics of using displacement masks. You’ll find out exactly how I made my makecashnow.biz money text header in 2009, so lets get started.
I found a photoshop tutorial on Patriotic Text Using Displacement Masks, so I used that as a starting point. Go to pshero.com and do steps 1 – 5. I used the font Cooper Heavy and I set the font size to 40 pt in photoshop and I used the text makecashnow.biz to achieve the look you see above.

When your ready for step 6 on pshero’s tutorial, I used a picture of a five thousand dollar bill instead of the flag. You will still need to follow the steps on the pshero tutorial, but use the image below. Note: I shrunk the image size to match the size of the text header and I cut the top section with 5000 Federal Reserve Note and copy and pasted it over the text header.

Now complete steps 6 – 10 on pshero’s tutorial, and you will be almost done (I didn’t do steps 11-16, but you can do those as well if you want that effect).
The last part. I made the following changes to the text layer in layer style: I added stroke, and set size to 2 px and the fill type color I changed to black (#000000). Next in Bevel and Emboss I set Highlight Mode: Screen to color #045504 (dark green).
Now you should have an image that looks like mine, and you can do this with any image. Try using even larger text, I think the image text look looks great on text over 100 pt. I hope you enjoyed my photoshop tutorial on how to create a money text look for your header.
